Our Story

Cereal Box Studio (Julia Warner & Eric Blyth) began as a daydream—an umbrella for the many projects, friendships, and collaborations that we’ve collected along the way.

Long before the studio had a permanent home, Julia was making small publications and collaborative projects with an old risograph printer while moving between houses in Los Angeles and Santa Cruz. These early experiments—zines, compilations, and small books made with friends—helped form the foundation for what would eventually become Cereal Box Studio.

In 2015, after concluding the final issues of MudThroat Records (a submission-based publication Julia started with her sister Eleanor), Julia began looking for new ways to continue producing and sharing multiples. That same spirit carried into the creation of Materialist Press, a poetry and creative writing imprint with Ariel Resnikoff and Livingston Miller.

After relocating to Cincinnati in 2018, Julia and Eric began building the next phase of the studio together. What started as a loose idea gradually took shape as a place to collaborate, host workshops, and create printed matter, all rooted in the belief that small editions can connect people and ideas across communities.

Julia Warner

Julia is Creative Director at Cereal Box, specializing in book design and small-edition publishing. Originally from Los Angeles, she discovered her love of the printed word during a college letterpress class at UC Santa Cruz. With an MFA in Graphic Design from Otis College of Art & Design, she now guides projects from idea to print, with a focus on material design and production.

Eric Blyth

Eric is a multi-disciplinary designer, currently working in architecture in Cincinnati. After growing up outside of Chicago, he came to Cincinnati to study at UC DAAP, and later received his MArch from the University of Utah. With a keen eye for design & visual harmony, Eric acts as a project manager and outreach magician at CBS, always finding new ways for Cereal Box to grow with our community.

Our Studio

Located in Northside in Cincinnati Ohio, our studio space houses everything we need to design, print, and bind small editions and riso projects.

Services

Workshops

We offer community-oriented workshops that bring people together to learn and experiment with riso printing & making small editions. Due to studio space, groups of 5-10 people are ideal for in-person workshops. If you have a group interested in a workshop, contact us below.

Some workshops & studio events we have offered in the past:

  • INTRO TO RISO: 30-minute show & tell

  • 2-COLOR POSTER WORKSHOP: 4-hour session, participants design their own poster & print a run of 20 copies at 11”x17”

  • 2-DAY RISO COLLABORATIVE: 4 hours each day, a group of participants designs a zine or artwork the first day and collectively prints the second day

FAQ

  • Yes and no. We tend to prioritize local clients over orders that require shipping out. We are also typically scheduling out 2-3 months in advance, so can’t guarantee quick turn-around times. But generally, yes! It’s always worth reaching out with information about your project and we’re happy to respond with our initial thoughts on timing, price quotes, etc.

  • Our studio only offers risograph printing, but for projects that incorporate any other print methods we have relationships with several local production shops. We love mixed media!

  • If you are looking for a binding not offered in house, we have relationships with other local shops that may be willing to bind something that was risograph-printed. Each project is unique and we try our best to work out details on a case-by-case basis.

  • Yes! We prior itize local clients (Cincinnati region) but are open to new clients elsewhere if it’s a good fit. Please fill out your specs on our Project Estimate page, or get in touch via our Contact page.
